Autumn Frames Tag

This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about making a frame tag.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS - CS3.  You may download a free trial at Adobe.

Remember to save as a .psd file often!

Download Supplies.

1.  Open a new, transparent image, size = 500 x 400.

2.  Open up your choice of an autumn image. 

3.  Choose the Eyedropper Tool.  Left-click to choose a medium to dark color from your image.

4.  Edit  > Fill with Foreground color

5.  Layer > Layer Mask > Hide All

6.  Open up the Distressed Mask image.

7.  Select > All  

8.  Image > Image Size.  Take the check OFF Constrain Proportions.  Set Height = 400.

9.  Edit > Copy

10.  Click back on your colored image.  In the Layers Palette, click on the Channels Tab, and then click on the eye of the Layer 1 Mask channel at the bottom so that channel is visible.

11.  Select > All.  Edit > Paste.  You will see the image below

12.  Click on the Layers tab.  Then Right-click on the layer mask thumbnail (see pink arrow) and choose Apply Layer Mask.

13.  Select > Deselect.

14.  Right-click on the layer and choose Blending Options.  Click on the WORDS Drop Shadow.  Apply these settings:  Blend Mode = Normal, color = black, Opacity = 100%, angle = 120, distance = 1, spread = 0, size = 1.

15.  Choose the Rounded Rectangle Tool

16.  Set the color to white.  Draw a rounded rectangle almost as big as your distressed background.

17.  Right-click somewhere in the blue of the layer (see pink arrow) and choose Rasterize Layer.

18.  With the magic wand, select the rectangle.

19.  Selection > Modify > Contract Selection.  Contract by 25 pixels

20.  Open up the Autumn Leaves pattern.  Select > All  Edit > Copy

21.  Click back on your distressed image.  Edit > Paste

22.  Right-click on the autumn leaves layer (in the blue part) and choose Merge Down.

23.  With the magic wand, select the white border.

24.  Open the Sand paper pattern.  Edit > Define Pattern.

25.  Click back on your distressed image.  Edit > Fill with Pattern (choose the sandpaper pattern)

26.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Duplicate layer.

27.  Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation   Place a CHECK in the Preview box.  The bottom bar will give you the preview.  Adjust the sliders to get a dark autumn color.

28.  Select > Deselect.

29.  Edit > Transform > Rotate.  Enter 6  into the rotation degrees field of the toolbar at the top.

30.  In the Layer Palette, click on the middle layer (original frame layer).  Edit > Transform > Rotate.  Enter negative 5 into the rotation degrees field of the toolbar at the top.

31.  Right-click on the frame layer and choose Blending Options.  Click on the WORDS  Outer Glow.  Blend Mode = Normal, Opacity = 100, Noise = 0, Color = dark brown, Technique = softer, spread = 14, size = 15

32.  In the Layer Palette, right-click on the layer where it says fx.    Choose Copy Layer Style

33.  Click on other frame layer.  Right-click and choose Paste layer Style

34.  Choose the Rectangle Tool

35.  Draw a white rectangle on top of frames.

36.  Right-click on rectangle layer and choose Rasterize Layer

37.  With the magic wand, select the white rectangle.

38.  Select > Modify > Contract Selection by 20 pixels.

39.  Open the Autumn image you chose in the beginning.  Select > All.  Edit > Copy

40.  Click back on frame image.  Edit > Paste

41.  Right-click on top of the layer mask thumbnail (see pink arrow).  Choose Apply Layer Mask.

42.  Right-click on the layer and choose Blending Options.  Click on the WORDS  Outer Glow.  Blend Mode = Normal, Opacity = 100, noise = 0, color = black, technique = softer, spread = 3, size = 3

43.  Your image should look like this.

44.  Open up some bow and leaf tubes.  For each one:  Select > All.  Edit > Copy, then click back on frame image.  Edit > Paste.  (I resized the bows to about 115 pixels wide).  Use the mover tool to move them into position.  Edit > Transform > Rotate, so you can rotate.  Notice that I put some decorations on top of the image, and some between the layers, just peeking out.

45.  Use the text tool to add your watermark and text.  I used the font:  2PeasBlessings.

46.  Layers > Merge Visible.

47.  Now Save as a GIF.  File > Save As.
