![]() I claim the copyright to this tutorial. You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial. Do not send the tutorial through email. Only share my link. This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP. It is intended for upper beginners to learn how to use vectors and basic PSP filters. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. I used Paint Shop Pro 7.04. You may download a free trial at Jasc. You will also need the Eye Candy 3.1 Filter. Remember to save as a psp file often! Before we begin, you might want to study the PSP tool bars. I have labeled the tools on another page. Click on the link and it will open a new page. You may want to keep this page open while you work on the tutorial, to refer to the names now and then. PSP Tools Now that you have studied the tools, let's begin! 1. Click New File in the top menu bar. Enter these settings: width=310, Height=150, Resolution=72.000 pixels/inch, Backround color=transparent, image type=16.7 Million Colors (24 Bits). Click Ok. Click File--Save As and save this file as basket.psp 2. Set the background box
to pattern and choose a wood pattern. I chose Stained wood and set
the scale to 75.
3. Flood-fill the image with this Stained Wood pattern. You don't have to use a wood pattern if you want your basket to be colored rather than wooden. 4. In the top menu, click Effects > Plugin Effects > Eye Candy
3.1 > Weave. Apply these settings: Ribbon width =30, gap width
= 1, fill gap selected, gap color=black, shadow depth = 65, thread detail
= 50, thread length = 10, smear threads selected.
5. In the Top Menu click Image > Canvas. Change the Canvas size to 500 X 500. Make sure that center horizontally and center vertically is checked. 6. Now apply a Perspective. In the top menu, click Effects
> Geometry Effects > Perspective--Vertical. Set % Difference = 38.
7. Now select the preset shapes tool. Check antialias and
create as a vector. It doesn't matter the size right now.
8. Draw an ellipse over your basket.
9. Move the ellipse so that it is centered over thebasket. In the picture, look at the handles that have arrows pointing to them. Pull the left handle and the right handles in towards the center--just enough so that the ellipse is not extending beyond the basket. Then pull the bottom handle up towards the center--just enough so that the ellipse is ot extending below the basket. It is ok if a little bit of the basket shows on the sides like in the second image. 10. Then pull up on the center handle so that it is above the top edge of the basket. 11. When satisfied, right-click on the vector layer, and click
convert to raster layer.
12. Grab the magic wand from the tools menu, and click on the
outside
of the ellipse. Then click on the bottom layer
to activate it. Hit the Delete key on your keyboard. This deletes
the part of the basket out side the ellipse shape, and makes the basket
round. *S*
13. Now we're through with the vector layer. Right-click
on it in the Layer Palette, and click delete.
14. In ToP Menu, choose Selections > Select All. Then choose Selections > Float. 15. In Top Menu, choose Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. Apply
these settings: Vertical = 2, Horizontal = 2, Opacity = 80, Blur
= 30, color = black.
16. In Top menu, choose Selections > Defloat. Then choose Selections > None. 17. Choose your pencil tool, and set it to single line, width=6,
and line style=solid line. Check Create as a Vector. Move
the wood pattern to your foreground color by clicking on the arrow that
is between the foreground color and the background color.
17. Hold the Shift key down on the keyboard, and draw a line from
just a little before the left side of the basket to a little after the
right side of the basket--along the top edge of the basket. (see below)
18. Right-click on the vector layer and choose Convert to Raster
Layer.
19. In Top Menu, select Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.
Apply these settings: bevel = pie shape, width = 6, smoothness =
75, depth = 30, ambience = -21, shininess = 0, color= white, angle = 351,
intensity = 48, elevation = 30.
20. Right-click on this layer and select merge > Merge Visible.
21. Right-click on the merged layer and select Rename. Rename the layer to basket. 22. From the left Tool Menu choose the preset shapes tool.
Set the tool to Ellipse, check antialias, check create as a vector, line
width = 6, line style = solid.
23. Draw a circular ellipse around your basket. I started
my ellipse where I have the top left arrow drawn, but your size doesn't
really matter. We will use the handles to adjust its size.
24. Study the arrows in the first picture above. Pull the left and right handles towards the center, so that the ellipse is a little skinnier than the basket. Then pull up on the top center handle (no arrow is drawn) to elongate the handle. (see second picture above) 25. Right-click on this vector layer and convert to raster layer.
Right-click again, and rename this layer Handle.
26. Choose the Selection tool from the left tool menu. Set
it to rectangle. Draw a selection rectangle around the bottom half
of the ellipse. Make sure that you still have some of the handle
below the basket edge NOT selected (see picture). Click the delete
key on your keyboard.
27. Apply the same Inner Bevel settings as in Step19.
28. In the Layer Palette, drag the handle layer below the basket
layer.
29. If you only want a single handle, then you are done! Save in psp format! If not, right-click on the handle layer in the Layer Palette, and choose
Duplicate.
30. From the left tool menu, choose the Deformation Tool (under
magnifying glass). Handles will appear around the handle. Pull
the left and right side handles in towards the center a little. Now
you have a double handle!
31. There's your basket. Keep the layers, and Save in psp
format.
Continue to the next page to learn how
to fill your basket.
