Blinkies by Alpha Selections

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to use animation and alpha selections.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

You will need to download the Alpha Selection Canvas.   Right-click on this link and save to desktop. 

1.  Open the Alpha Selection Canvas.  It will look blank.  SHIFT + Duplicate.  Close the original.

2.  Selections > Load/Save Selection > Load Selection from Alpha Channel

3.  Choose the Border 300 selection.

4.  Flood-fill this selection with your border color.

5.  Selections > Invert.

6.  To fill the center of the blinky, you may flood-fill with your favorite color or pattern, paste a tube, or paste a complete image.  Add your watermark (your name).

7.  In the Layer Palette, right-click on the layer and choose Duplicate.

8.  Click back on the bottom layer.

9.  Selections > Load/Save Selections > Load Selection from Alphas.  Choose Checker Border #1.

10.  Flood-fill this selection with a dark color from your tube or image in the center.

11.  Selections > Load/Save Selections > Load Selection from Alpha Channel.  Choose CheckerBorder #2.

12.  Flood-fill this selection with a light color from your tube or image in the center.

13.  Click on top layer in the Layer Palette.

14.  Selections > Load/Save Selections > Load Selection from Alphas.  Choose Checker Border #1.

15.  Flood-fill this selection with the same light color as step 12..

16.  Selections > Load/Save Selections > Load Selection from Alpha Channel.  Choose CheckerBorder #2.

17.  Flood-fill this selection with the same dark color as Step 9.

18.  Save this image as blinky template. PSP

19.  Open up the saved image in ANIMATION SHOP

20.  File > Save As   and follow through the next boxes.

You can resize your animation before or after saving in ANIMATION SHOP :  Animation > Resize

 

Download the Heart Blinky Template, and create heart blinkies like below.
