I wrote this tutorial on my own. Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental. I claim the copyright to my tutorial. This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about using Transform tool and Image Ready for animation. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS or CS2. You may download a free trial at Adobe. Remember to save as a .psd file often! Download supplies.
1. Open the butterfly tube from the supply folder. Image > Duplicate. Close the original. 2. Right-click on the background layer and choose Delete Layer.
3. Edit > Transform > Scale. Click on the Lock icon between width and height. Change Width to 50% (height will change too).
4. Choose the text tool. Set text to a fat font. I used Plump MT, at size 125 pt., Set color = white.
5. Type your name. 6. Right-click on text layer and choose Rasterize Type.
7. Choose the magic wand tool. Hold the SHIFT key down, and left-click inside each of your letters.
8. Select > Modify > Contract. Contract by 4 pixels.
9. Edit > Fill. Choose Color. and choose the color you want to fill the inside of the name with. I chose green.
10. Choose the magic wand tool. Hold the CTRL key down, and carefully click on the white border around your name. Don't forget the middle of letters like P and A.
11. Choose the gradient tool. Pick a gradient of your choice by clicking on it.
12. Left-click somewhere on top left of image above name and drag down to bottom right (see line in pic below) and release. The white area will fill with the gradient.
13. Edit > Stroke. Width = 1 px, color = black. Select Outside.
14. Right-click on name layer and choose Blending Options. Click on the WORDS Drop Shadow. Blend Mode = normal, color = black, opacity = 100%, angle = 30, Distance = 1, Spread = 0, Size = 2.
15. Select > None 16. In the Layer Palette, drag the name layer to the bottom.
17. Right-click on the butterfly (top) layer and choose Duplicate Layer
18. Image > Trim. Select Based on Transparent Pixels. This will trim the excess blank space off of your image.
19. Edit > Transform > Distort. This puts a Transform box around the butterfly. Slide the middle node on EACH side (see arrows) in towards center for about 20 pixels.
20. Save this image as a PSD. 21. Open up Image Ready, and open this image in Image Ready. 22. Set up Image Ready for Animation. Use this tutorial.Setting up Image Ready for Animation (BASICS) 23. In the Frame Palette, click on the menu arrow to the right and choose Copy Frame.
24. Then click on the menu arrow again and choose Paste Frame. Paste After Selection. 25. Click on Frame 1. Then click on the eye for the top butterfly layer to HIDE that layer.
26. Click on Frame 2. Then click on the eye for the bottom butterfly layer to HIDE that layer. and click on the eye of the top butterfly layer to UNHIDE that layer.
27. Click on the little arrow next to the word sec in Frame 1 (see circled). Choose 0.2 seconds. Do this for EACH frame.
28. File > Save Optimized AS. Choose a name for your image. This will save as a GIF.
