Crumpled Texture

This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about crumpling texture files. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS - CS3. You may download a free trial at Adobe. Remember to save as a .psd file often! Download the Crumpled Texture masks. You will need a texture paper from a scrap kit. 1. Open a new, transparent image, size = 500 x 500 pixels. 2. Choose one of the Crumpled Texture masks from the zip file. Open it in Photoshop. 3. Image > Duplicate Close the original. 4. Filter > Stylize > Emboss Angle = 77, height = 3 to 5, amount = 250 %
5. Choose the Rectangle Marquee Tool and select a part of the image that you want to keep.
6. Select > Inverse
7. Press the delete key.
8. Select > Inverse
9. Open up the texture paper pattern from the scrap kit you chose. 10. Edit > Define Pattern
11. Click back on your Emboss layer (first image). Layer > New > Layer
12. Edit > Fill > Use pattern that you just defined.
13. In the Layer Palette, Change the Layer blend mode to Multiply.
14. Right-click on top layer and choose Merge Down
15. Image > Adjustments > Auto Contrast.
16. Choose the Polygonal Lasso Tool
17. Set the tool to Subtract from selection
18. Use the polygonal tool, to cut out some pieces of the edge to make the edge look folded. Make sure you close the selection by coming full circle and look for the circle next to the cursor, then click to close the selection.
19. Work around the edge. You can see that some of the selection has been "indented" into the edge.
20. In the Layer Palette, at the bottom, click on the Quick Mask icon
21. When you click on the Quick Mask mode, your image will now look like this -- showing only what was inside the selection
and your layer will look like this
22. Right-click inside the thumbnail (see purple arrow) of the mask, and choose Apply Layer Mask
23. Image > Trim
Transparent Pixels.
24. In the Layer Palette, at the bottom, click on the FX icon.
25. Click on the WORDS Drop Shadow. Apply these settings: Blend Mode = multiply, black, opacity, 100%, angle = 120, distance = 10, spread = 0, size = 5
Click on the WORDS Outer Glow. apply these settings: Blend Mode = Multiply, Opacity = 75, noise = 0, color = solid black, spread = 10, size = 5
26. Save this as a GIF file, or use it to make a tag.
