Translate Tool
moving items around the workspace

I wrote this tutorial on my own.  Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental.  I claim the copyright to my tutorial. You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about DAZ Studio.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to use the translate tool.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need DAZ Studio

1.  Open DAZ and create a model.

Sometimes when you add clothes or hair or something else to your picture, the image appears behind the model.  Or you may want to place to models side by side and need to arrange them so that you can see both.  Sliding a model around on the screen to change positions is called translating them.

2.  Click on the Translate tool in the tool bar (circled).  It's the cross hairs.

3.  Select the item that you want to move by clicking on it or right-clicking and choose Select "model name" (the name of the model will be there).  If you only have one item in the workspace, you'll have to select the whole item (not a piece of it).  Remember, to translate means you are moving the item (not pieces of it).

4.  The Translate AXES will appear in the graphic like below -- red, blue and green arrows.  When you select one of the arrows it turns yellow.

To select one of the arrows, hover the mouse over it until it turns yellow, then "grab" it by left-clicking and holding down the button and dragging the mouse across the workspace.

If you have the workspace set for View from the front or Perspective Viewpoint:

The green arrow will be the Translate on Z (#1 in pic)-- it will move the picture up and down the workspace.

The blue arrow will be the Translate on Y (#2 in pic)-- it will move the picture front and back in the workspace.

The red arrow will be the Translate on X (#3 in pic) -- it will move the sideways (left and right) in the workspace.

Now practice with this tool.
