Body Tattoos

I wrote this tutorial on my own.  Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental.  I claim the copyright to my tutorial. You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about DAZ Studio.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to make body tattoos for a figure.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need DAZ Studio and a paint program like PSP or Photoshop.

We are going to make body tattoos for DAZ's Victoria 4 base.  Of course, you could follow the same procedure for other dolls.

1.  Download the template files for the Victoria 4 base.

Go here, to the download page for Victoria 4.
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=4783

(If you want to use another DAZ figure, just go to the download page for that base)

Scroll down midway, past the Features, and click on the link to download the V4 template file:

As you can see, there is a PC file (the .exe)  and there is a Mac file (the .sit)

2.  Place the downloaded file into a folder to hold your template. Then double-click on the file and let it "install".  It will not be installing, though.  It will unpack the file into the SAME folder.

3.  There may be one or more than one file in the folder.  Open all of them in your paint program-- PSP or Photoshop.  I am using PSP here, but the steps would be the same in Photoshop, or similar.

4. Open the face template file.   Layers > New Raster Layer

5.  On the new layer, add  your tattoos.  I used a clover tube from PSP, and created a NEW layer for each clover!  Instead of tubes, you could also use shapes tool, pen tool, or dingbat fonts.  Place all the graphics where you want them.  We created each on its own layer so that we can move them around if we are not happy when we test it out in DAZ.

6.  Layers > new Raster Layer

7.  Drag this layer below the first tube layer (right above the template layer).  Give the face a skin tone of your choice.

8.  File > Export > Jpeg Optimizer.

This save box will open, In the Save in window, brows to C: drive > Program files > Daz > Studio > content > Runtime > Textures > YOUR folder (create one if you haven't already) > folder for the texture you made.  Save the file with a descriptive name.  I used the same name that I was coloring.

9.  Open up DAZ and load up Victoria 4 base.

10.  Click on the Surfaces Tab (right side of top window)

11.  In the tree, hold the CTRL key, and click on SkinFace  (sorry, NOT Skin Head) to highlight body part.

12.  Under Diffuse, click on the menu down-arrow next to diffuse color, and choose Browse for Image

13.  Browse to C: drive > Program Files > DAZ > Studio > content > Runtime > Textures > YOUR folder > V4 texture folder you created.

14.  Open the face file texture you had saved.

15.  If there are other body parts that you changed, repeat Steps 11 - 14 for each body part template that you have to color.

16.  Dress and pose your tattooed image.  Render:  Render > Render.

17.  Now Save.  File > Save Last Rendered.
