Cloning
I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial. What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial. Share only my link. This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about DAZ Studio. It is intended for beginners to learn how to make water lights undulate in a figure. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. (Photoshop coming later)
When tears cannot be repaired in DAZ, you can use a graphics program to correct the problem. We will use PSP 's cloning tool to "paint" in the dress where it is torn. This will take patience! Take your time, and remember the undo button.
1. Open the image that has a torn outfit in PSP. If you don't have one, just right-click on the image above and save it to your computer. You can use it to practice on. 2. We will need to look very closely at the area, so we will zoom in. Choose the Zoom tool.
3. Left-click on the image 2 or 3 times to enlarge it. 4. Choose the Clone Tool (above the paintbrush)
5. Set your clone tool to my settings: Shape = round, size = 3, hardness = 100, step = 1, density = 100, thickness = 100
Rotation = 0, opacity = 100,
Do not change the size to a bigger number to get done faster! Little is better! 6. First, the clone tool must "memorize" a spot to close. RIGHT-click on an area VERY close to the rip spot (#1 in pic below)
7. Left-click in the "empty" spot right above that. It should fill in a 3-pixel wide copy of where-ever you right-clicked. 8. Continue to repeat Steps 6 & 7 until you have cloned the whole tear, like below
9. When done, save and continue on with your post work.
You can also use the clone tool to cover up parts of an image you don't want. In the photo below, part of the lace is showing through her fingers (see pink arrow) and it doesn't look like it belongs. So we will use the clone tool to remove it. Right-click on the photo and save to your computer to practice on this photo, or use one of your own.
10. Choose the Zoom tool, and enlarge the photo 2 or 3 times. 11. Choose the Clone tool, with same settings as before. 12. Again, you will right-click to memorize a color and the left-click to clone the trouble spot with that color. We will be cloning the finger back where the black lace covers it. So right-click on the finger NEAR the black lace and the left-click on the black lace near where you right-clicked. 13. Continue Step 12 until you have cloned all the finger back:
14. Now if you look at the finger, it doesn't look too smooth in the color. Actually, if you had used a bigger cloning brush it would look MORE mottled than that. This is small mottling and we can blend the colors together. 15. Choose the Soften tool
16. Set the soften tool to Size = 3- 5, Hardness = 1, Step = 10, density = 100, thickness= 100, rotation = 0, opacity = 100
17. Carefully and Slowly! Left-click and drag the mouse to blend the mottling. DO NOT use big strokes. Use little tiny strokes, like one pixel at a time. Remember the undo button if it gets bad.
Happy Cloning!
