Installing Zipped Add-ons
I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial. What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial. Share only my link. This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about DAZ Studio. It is intended for beginners to learn how to load content from zipped files. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need DAZ Studio, an unzipping program like Winzip or Zipgenius or 7zip, and an unrar program, like Winrar. (Note: this tutorial expects you to know how to use these program. It will not teach you how, and do not write me to ask how. That is not the purpose of this tutorial.) There are two types of content to download -- there are base files and there are texture files. Base files are mesh files or starter files for items. They usually have an .obj extension. V4 is a base file. You start with that file than you can add color to it, or other things to change it. Texture files are files that color, shade or change the base file in some way. These can have a multitude of extensions (and there is another tut that will explain where all these extensions go in DAZ) For the Dress Up V4 tutorial you will need to download and load these content files. This tutorial will show you how to load that content into DAZ Studio, and the next tutorial will show you how to use it in DAZ Studio. Download these files and store them in a folder where you store content: Rio_Carnevale -- texture for the RRV4 short dress Izabela Shoes for V4 (mesh) Wavy Tress Hair (mesh) V4 poses -- this link is no good; either download another set of V4 poses, or skip that part of the tut. Aphrodite -- V4 custom morph and texture (only base required)
1. Double-click on the folder where you stored RR V4 Short Dress mesh. This will open up the folder, and you will see this. The highlighted (blue) file is the file we are looking for. Double-click on the zipped file rrv4sd.zip to open it up.
2. When it opens up, it will look like this. Most designers/creators will put their files inside a Runtime folder. Double-click on the Runtime folder to open up that folder.
3. You will see these files: Geometries, libraries, textures. I highlighted these 3. The other files do not need to be loaded into DAZ (unless you want to). Readme files are there for your reading, and may give you special instructions about the file, such as copyright, usage rights, and required files. Texture Templates are files that you use in a graphics program like PSP or Photoshop to create textures for bases. If a zipped file contains a Geometries folder, then you know that the zipped file contains a base or mesh file. Drag this window to the right side of your screen (Left-click and hold on the blue title bar at the top of the pic to drag).
4. Now we will open the folder in the DAZ program where you need to load these files. Go to Start and choose My Computer. Double-click on C drive. Double-click on Program files. Double-click on Daz. Double-click on Studio. Double-click on Content. Double-click on Runtime. Because you are a new user, you may not see all the folders that I have in the picture below. But you should see a Geometries, Libraries, and Textures folder. Drag this window to the left side of your screen (Left-click and hold on the blue title bar at the top of the pic to drag).
5. Now look at the window on the right (the content folder you want to load):
Select the files you want to move. To do this, hold the CTRL key down and left-click on Geometries, libraries, and textures. They should all turn blue/highlighted like in my picture. 6. Then left-click and hold the mouse button down on one of the blue files and drag them over to the left window (your DAZ program files) and release the mouse button. When you release, a box will ask if you want to overwrite folders. Click Yes to ALL.
7. This is what the programs folder (left window) should look like after it is done copying to that file. Notice the files in blue -- these are the folders that were overwritten with added content. You should have the same folders as before you moved that content.
8. Now open the folder where you have stored the Rio Carnivale texture. This is a RAR file. You MUST have an unrar program already installed before you attempt to open this program. If you do, Double-click on the Rio Carnivale texture, and move the window to the right. Double-click on the Runtime folder. Notice there is no Geometries folder in this content. Rio Carnivale is not a base figure. It is only a texture file. Hold the CTRL key down and highlight Textures and Libraries.
Drag it to the left and release. Choose Yes to All, and let it overwrite the Libraries and Textures folders. 9. Now open the folder where you have stored the Izabelshoes.zip file. Double-click on the Izabelshoes.zip file, and move the window to the right. Double-click to inside the Runtime folder. Hold the CTRL key down, and highlight the Libraries and Textures file.
Drag it to the left and release. Choose Yes to All, and let it overwrite the Libraries and Textures folders. 10. Now open the folder where you stored the V4 Poses 01.zip file. Double-click on this file and move the window to the right. Double-click to inside the Runtime folder. Hold the CTRL key down, and highlight the Libraries folder.
Drag it to the left and release. Choose Yes to All, and let it overwrite the Libraries folders. 11. Now open the folder where you stored the Wavy tresses files -- Wavy tresses fit for V4 & Wavy tresses hair . Double-click on the fit file and move the window to the right. Double-click to inside the Runtime folder. Hold the CTRL key down, and highlight the Libraries folder.
Drag it to the left and release. Choose Yes to All, and let it overwrite the Libraries folder.
Now backup in the folder and Double-click on the Wavy Tresses Hair.zip file. Double-click on the hair file and move the window to the right. Double-click to inside the Runtime folder. Hold the CTRL key down, and highlight the Libraries, and textures files. Drag it to the left and release. Choose Yes to All, and let it overwrite the Libraries and Textures folders. 12. Now open the folder where you saved Aphrodite -V4base.zip file. Double-click on it to open the zip file and move the window to the right. Double-click to inside the Runtime folder. Hold the CTRL key down, and highlight the Libraries and textures folders.
Drag it to the left and release. Choose Yes to All, and let it overwrite the Libraries and Textures folders.
This should have installed all the add-ons we will use to Dress up V4 in the next tutorial. Remember: you need to drag all the folders in the Runtime folder of the zip file (EXCEPT Readme and Template folders) into the RUNTIME folder of the DAZ Program files.
