Organizing Folders
I wrote this tutorial on my own. Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental. I claim the copyright to my tutorial. You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial. Do not send the tutorial through email. Only share my link. This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about DAZ Studio. It is intended for beginners to learn how to organize the Libraries folder. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need DAZ Studio.
BEFORE we begin, I must tell you that you can only reorganize folders inside the LIBRARIES folder (do not touch inside the Geometries or Textures folders).
As you install poses, etc., into your DAZ Studio you will notice a jumble of files in the contents palette, and may find it hard to find what you're looking for.
So you will want to re-organize the Libraries folders. Click on START > My Computer > C: drive > Program Files > DAZ > Studio > Content > Runtime > Libraries. Inside this folder you will see such folders as Poses, Props, Hair, etc. You can reorganize any of these folders. Let's take a look at the Poses folder. Double-click on it to open it. You probably see a bunch of folders here. What I did was create some new folders. I created the following folders: A3, Animals, Clothes, Dragon, Hair, Harliekins, M3, V3, V4, Wings.
Then with my mouse I dragged every file that I thought would belong into each folder. So that means I dumped all the clothing files into the clothes folder, all A3 poses into A3 folder, etc. Now when you look at the content palette, you will notice under Poses all the folders you have created.
Then I noticed that in some of those subfolders, I needed to organize them-- like clothing. I had several different outfits for the A3Whisper. So inside the clothing folder, I created a folder called A3Whisper, and dragged all the A3Whisper outfits into that folder.
I had several textures for the Idol outfit, so I made an Idol folder and dragged those textures into it. Now my content palette looks like this:
Some argue that this organization is easier on your DAZ program and computer because it doesn't load everything at once. But I think the biggest plus has been that it saves me time in finding that outfit that I was looking for. Now you can organize your character folder and your props folder INSIDE the Libraries folder, too. You can do the hair folder there too (but I didn't have too much to organize). Just remember: Do not mess with the Geometries or the textures folder.
