Wink Animation:
Movie Method

I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial.  What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial.  Share only my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about DAZ Studio.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to create a DAZ movie.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need DAZ Studio.

1.  Open up DAZ, choose the doll you want to use, clothe her, and pose her so that you can still see the face.  We are going to make this doll wink.  I chose V4.2 with the Amaree outfit.

2.  Click on the Animate tab.

3.  Let's make the background dark so we don't get white lines around her when we save:

Click on the menu arrow (circled in pic below) and choose Background color.  Set it to black or dark gray.

4.  Use the magnifying glass to get a close up of the face.  Left-click on the magnifying glass and hold the mouse button while you drag the mouse towards you.  This will move the camera closer to the figure.

5.  You should see the timeline at the bottom of the screen.  Notice that there is a gray arrow at ZERO.  That is starting position.  So our animation will start with what you are seeing on your screen right now.

6.  Now, we could make the animation short in frames.  We really only need 2 frames:  eyes open, one eye closed.  But I want you to get an idea of how the animation feature works.  So we are going to close the eye on the 10th frame.  Drag the arrow to 10, or click at 10 and the arrow will move there.

7.  Now we need to pose her the way we want -- to blink.  Click on the Pose tab.

8.  Click on her head

9.  In the Parameters window, scroll down to work on the eyes.  I set her Right eye to squint at 80.6%, and it to close at -100%.  See my settings below.  Make sure that squinting and closing are for the SAME eye!

10.  Now we need to bring this pose into our animation.  Click on the animate tab

11.  You will notice that she is now winking in the animation window.

12.  We want the animation to loop -- return to the beginning so that it can go on forever and ever.  So our last frame needs to repeat the first frame.  Move the time arrow to 15.

13.  Click on the Pose tab, so we can change her pose back to what it was.

14.  RETURN the EyeSquint and the Eyes Open-close to ZERO position

15.  Click on Animate tab.  You will see her eyes are open now.

16.  Ok we are ready to make her wink.  Click on Render > Render settings

17.  Match your settings to mine.  In the Timeline section, Choose Make Movie.  Now we only used the timeline up to 15, so the End Frame needs to say 15.

18.  In the Render To:  choose Movie File.  Click on the 3 dots button and find the folder where you want DAZ to save to, and give it a name.

19.  Once you are set, click Render.

20.  When DAZ gets ready to save it will ask you which type of compression.  CHOOSE UNCOMPRESSED.  (Now depending on the programs installed on your computer, you may be able to choose one of the others, but in general, everyone can work with the Uncompressed).

This will take a LONG time.  Speed depends on how many frames you are saving, and your computer's processing speed.  This will be MUCH longer than a normal render so be prepared to wait!

Now you will open up the image in Photoshop to do some postwork editing.
