This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for intermediates to learn how to use preset shapes and to shade.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro 9, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

1.  Open up the image that you wish to use.  Hold the SHIFT key down and press D on keyboard to duplicate it.  Close the original.  Minimize this picture for later use.

2.  Open up the arch tube that you make from the Arch Tutorial.

3.  In the top menu, click Image > Canvas Size.  Set the width=500 and height = 600 pixels to give us room to work with.

4.  With the magic wand, click on the arch to select it.

5.  Grab the paint can, and flood-fill the arch with whatever color, pattern, or gradient you wish to use.

6.  In the top menu, click Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.  Apply these settings:  Choose the bevel pictured below, width = 30, smoothness = 20, depth = 70, ambience = 0, shininess = 20, angle = 225, intensity = 40, elevation = 40, color = white.

7.  In top menu:  Selection > Deselect/none

8.  In the Layer Palette, right-click on the arch layer and choose Duplicate.  Then click on the bottom arch layer to highlight it.

9. In the tool menu, choose the deformation Tool.  Right-click and HOLD on one of the CORNERS.  Drag the corner inward.  This will shrink the copy of the arch but also keep it in proportion.  Shrink it some (see mine below).  Then release the mouse button.  Left-click and drag the center node.  This will move the arch.  Move the arch to one side so that it is just under the larger arch.

10.  Right-click on the smaller arch layer in the Layer Palette, and choose Duplicate.  With the mover tool move this arch to the other side.  See below.

11.  Right-click on one of the layers and choose Merge > Merge Visible.

12.  With the magic wand, click on the outside transparent area of the arch.

13.  In the top menu, click Selections > Invert

14.  In the top menu, click Selections > Modify > Contract.  Contract by 5.

15.  In the top menu, click Layers > Add new Raster Layer.  Drag this layer to the bottom of the Layer Palette.  Be sure that this blank layer is highlighted in the layer palette.

16.  Maximize the image that you want to use.  In the top menu, click Edit > Copy.

17.  Click back on the arch frame image to select it.  In the top menu, click Edit > Paste > Paste into Selection.

The image should be on the bottom layer, with the frame on top and on its own layer.

18.  In the Layer Palette, click on the top frame layer.  Choose the rectangle selection tool.  Hold the SHIFT key down and carefully draw a rectangle around the bottom of each frame part.

19.  Press the delete key on the keyboard.  In top menu, Selections > Deselect/None

20. In the Layer Palette, right-click on the image layer (bottom) and choose duplicate.  Now click on the bottom layer to highlight it.

21.  With the Rectangle Selection Tool, draw a rectangle box about 50 pixels above the bottom edge of the raised arches.  See below.  If you need to turn your rulers on, click Edit > Rulers.

22.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Flaming Pear > Flood.  Change the Horizon to 20, and leave the other settings to default.  Check the preview image (right of box) to see that the flood merges with the image.  You do not want a gap between them.  If there is a gap, change this horizon to a smaller number.

23.  Now in the Layer Palette, click on the copy of the image layer (middle) to highlight it.

24.  With the rectangle selection tool, draw a rectangle box so that the top edge will be flush with the bottom edges of the raised arches.  See below.

25.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Flaming Pear > Flood.  Change the Horizon to 30 (or adjust for your image).

26.  Draw a rectangle box so that the BOTTOM edge is flush with the bottom of the raised arches and go up just a little.  Press the Delete key on the keyboard.  This will smooth out the bottom edges.

27.  Right-click on the top layer and choose New Raster Layer.  Call this layer BACKGROUND, and drag it to the bottom of the Palette.

28.  Flood-fill (with paint can) this background layer with Black or some VERY dark color.

29.  Right-click on the TOP layer and choose New Raster Layer.  Call this layer Frame.

30.  Flood fill the frame layer with the color/pattern/gradient that you used for the arch.

31.  In the top menu click Selections > Select All.

32.  In the top menu, click Selections > Modify > Contract.  Contract by 10 pixels.

33.  Resize the image now.  In top menu, click Image > Resize.  Make sure that Lock Ratio and Resize All Layers are checked at the bottom.  Change to pixels and Resize to 300 pixels in height.

34.  Save this as a Jpeg.  File > Save As.
