Diamond Blinds Frame

This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to create a frame.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X2, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download Simple Plugin and install to your plugin folder:

1.  Download this mask and open it in PSP (Right-click and save as Target):

2.  Open a new, transparent image, size 600 x 500. 

3.  Open the photo that you wish to use.  Edit > Copy.  Click back on the transparent image.  Edit > Paste As New Layer

4.  Layer > New mask Layer > From Image.

Choose the DiamondBlindsMask in the Source Window, CHECK Invert mask data

5.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Merge > Merge Group

SHIFT+ D to duplicate.  Minimize the duplicate for later use in Step 28

6.  In the Layer Palette, click on the bottom (blank) layer and flood-fill it with a color from your image.

7.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Merge > merge Down

8.  Choose the rectangle selection tool.  Then click on the Custom selection icon in the top toolbar.

9.  Set these margins:  top = 0, left = 500, right = 600, bottom = 500

10.  Layers > New Raster Layer

11.  Flood-fill the selection with a gold gradient

12.  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise.  Gaussian, 50%, Monochrome

13.  Selection > Modify > Contract Selection by 3 pixels

14.  Press the delete key.

15.  KEEP the selection.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Merge > Merge Down.

16.  Effects > Textures > Blinds  Width = 10, Opacity = 50, color = black, UNcheck Horizontal

17.  Click on the Custom Selection icon again.  Choose these selections:  top = 400, left = 0, right = 600, bottom = 500.

18.  Layers > New Raster Layer

19.  Flood-fill the selection with gold gradient.  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise.  Use the same settings as before.

20.  Selection > Modify > Contract Selection by 3 pixels.  Press the DELETE key.

21.  Effects > Textures > Blinds.  Width  = 10, Opacity = 30, color = black, CHECK Horizontal

22.  Effects > Plugins > Simple > Diamonds (will automatically apply when clicked)

23.  Selections > Select All

24.  Selections > Modify > Contract by 50 pixels

25.  Flood-fill the selection with a gold gradient. 

26.  Adjust > add/remove Noise > add Noise.  Use same settings as before.

27.  Selection > Modify > Contract by 3 pixels

28.  Click back on your duplicate.  Edit > Copy.  Then click back on your frame image.  Edit > Paste as new layer

29.  Image > Add Borders.  White, Symmetric, 3

30.  Select the white border with the magic wand. 

31.  Flood-fill the selected border with your gradient.

32.  Apply the same noise as before:  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise > Add Noise

33.  Add your text and save as a JPEG.  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
