Floral Lace Frame

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to create a nice frame.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro XI, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download the FM Tile Tools filter

Download the Greg's Filter 2

Download the supplies (the lace corner)

1.  Open up the photo that you wish to use.  SHIFT + D to duplicate, close the original.

2.  Resize so that the biggest side is no bigger than 400 pixels.  Image > Resize

3.  Use the color dropper and choose a light and dark color from your graphic.  (I chose to use a gold gradient as my light color)

4.  Image > Add Borders  Symmetric, size = 3, color = your light color

5.  If you want to make this a gradient:  Use the magic wand to select the border, and flood-fill with a gradient of your choice.

6.  Selections > Invert

7.  Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout   Apply these settings:  V& H = 4,  Opacity = 75, Blur = 15, Shadow Color = black

8.  Image > Add Border.  Size= 3, color = dark color

9.  Image > Add Border.  Size = 3, color = light color (make gradient if you did before)

10.  Image > Add Border.  Size = 25, color = dark color

11.  Use the magic wand to select the border.

12.  Effects > Plugins > Gregs Filter 2 > Pool Shadow.  Apply these settings:  Diagonal = 50, center = 50, horizontal = 50, diagonal = 50, horizontal = 50, vertical = 50, intensity = 85, lightness = 128.

13.  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.  Apply these settings:  Bevel = pie, width = 13, smoothness = 16, depth = 3, ambience = 0, shininess = 0, angle = 315, intensity = 50, elevation = 30

14.  Repeat Steps 4, 8 & 9  (size 3 border, with light, dark, then light color)

15.  Image > Add Borders, size = 35, dark color  With the magic wand select the border

16.  Effects > Plugins > FM Tile Tools > Collage - Circular.  apply default settings

17.  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel   Apply the settings:  Bevel = pie, width = 13, smoothness = 16, depth = 3, ambience = 0, shininess = 0, color = white, angle = 315, intensity = 50, elevation = 30

18.  Image > Add Border  , size =3, light color (gradient)

19.  Open up the lace corner tube. Edit > Copy, click back on the frame and Edit > Paste as new layer. Move the corner into position

20.  Right-click on the lace corner layer and choose Duplicate.  Image > Mirror

21.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Merge > merge down

22.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Duplicate.  Image > Flip

23.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Merge > Merge Down

24.  Add a drop shadow if you like  H = 3, V = 4, Opacity = 50, blur= 5

25.  Layers > merge >  Merge All (Flatten)

26.  Save this as a JPEG.  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer.
