Create a Fractal Brush
I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial. What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial. Share only my link. This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to create a brush tip from a fractal image. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. I wrote this with Paint Shop Pro X2, but the steps may also be done in any version. You may download a free trial at Corel. Remember to save as a psp file often! Download and install a Fractal program. I used Apophysis. It is free. 1. Create a Fractal image using your fractal program. Save it as a JPEG or PNG. Make the fractal on a black background. 2. Open the image in Paint shop Pro. 3. Choose the selection marquee tool, set it to square. Draw a square selection around the part of the image that you want to use.
4. Image > Crop to Selection
5. If you are using a version of PSP earlier than X2, then you need to resize the image so that it is no bigger than 500 px. 6. Image > Greyscale
7. Image > Increase Color Depth, RGB - 8 bits/channel
8. Image > Negative Image (this reverses the black and white)
9. File > Export Custom Brush
And now your fractal brush is ready to use!
