Glitter Tree

I wrote this tutorial on my own.  Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental.  I claim the copyright to my tutorial. You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to animate glitter.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download the tree tube (this is not my tube) Just left click on the link.

1.  Open the tree tube. Shift + D to duplicate.  Close the original.

2.  Layers > New Raster Layer

3.  Choose the paint brush tool.  In the paintbrush toolbar at the top, set shape = round, and size = 6.  Set foreground color = gold gradient or whatever color you want to make the garland.

4.  Draw the garland on the new layer above the tree.

5.  Change the size of the paintbrush to 15.  Change the foreground color to whatever color you want to make the ornament balls.  I actually used two colors -- red and blue and alternated putting the balls down.

6.  Just left click once in each spot that you want to place an ornament ball.

7.  Change the paintbrush size = 5.  This is to make the lights.

8.  Using the colors you want to use for the lights, left click once in each place that you want to place a light.

9.  Selections > Select All.

10.  Selections > Float

11.  Selections > Defloat

12.  Selections >Load/Save Selection > Save Selection to Alpha Channel.  Give the selection a name.  (We save the selection in case we lose the selection over the next few steps).

13.  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible.

14.  Right-click on the tree layer and choose Duplicate.

15. Duplicate once more so that you have 3 tree layers.  Now click on the bottom tree layer to highlight it.

16.  Adjust > Add/Remove Noise.  Set Uniform, Noise = 20%, Monochrome

17.  In the Layer Palette, click on the middle tree layer to highlight it.  In top menu, click Adjust > Add/Remove Noise.  Set change Noise = 30%

18.  In the Layer Palette, click on the middle tree layer to highlight it.  In top menu, click Adjust > Add/Remove Noise.  Set change Noise = 40%

19.  Save this as a PSP Image.  File > Save As

20.  Open up Animation Shop

21.  Open up the saved tree image in Animation Shop.

22.  Animation Shop automatically sets the display time to a default of 10, so the timing is already set.

23.  Save this in animation shop.  File > Save As.
