Grid Blur
A MAC version of Ommadawn Blur

I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial.  What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial.  Share only my link.

This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about using some plugins.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

This tutorial was written using Photoshop CS 3.  You may download a free trial at Adobe.

Remember to save as a .psd file often!

This is a MAC-friendly version of the PS Ommadawn Blur Tag tutorial I have written.  Some of the tutorials used in the Ommadawn Blur tag are not MAC versions.

Download  Super Blade Pro and install into the plugins folder.

Download the M_Coconutice Superblade Pro preset.  Unzip and store this into your SBP preset environments folder.

1.  Open a New, transparent file, size 20 x 20

2.  Select > All

3.  Edit > Stroke  Width = 1 px, Color = black, Center

4.  Now save this pattern.  Edit > Define Pattern

5.  Give it a name.  I called mine  Grid20x20.  You can close this tiny image now.

6.  Open the tube (transparent image) that you wish to use.  Image > Duplicate.  Close the original.

7.  Image > Size and make the longest side about 350 pixels, no longer than 400 pixels.

8.  In the Layer Palette, right-click on the layer and choose Duplicate Layer.

9.  Duplicate the layer again so that you have 3 copies of the tube layer.  HIDE the top two layers by clicking on the eyes for those two layers.  Then click on the bottom layer to highlight it.

10.  Filter > Blur > Radial Blur   Amount = 100, Zoom, Good Quality.

11.  Repeat this filter twice so that you apply the filter a total of 3 times.

12.  In the Layer Palette, click on the eye of the middle layer to UNHIDE that layer, and highlight the middle layer.

13.  Edit > Transform > Scale.  Click on the lock between the width and height.  Then change the width to 85%.  The height will automatically change to that size.  Click on the check.

14.  Filter > Textures > Mosaic Tile.  Cell Size = 20

15.  Edit > Fill > Use Pattern and choose the Grid20x20 pattern that you had created at the beginning of the tut.

16.  This places a grid across your image (should be the middle layer).  With the magic wand, click on the black lines to select the entire grid.

17.  Press the DELETE key to delete the black lines.

18.  Select > None

19.  Change to the Rectangular Marquee Selection tool.  Hold the CTRL key down and left-click on the thumbnail on the middle layer.  This will select each of the little squares.

20.  Filter > Flaming Pear > Super Blade Pro.  Click on the preset browse button (see pink arrow) and find the M_coconutice.q9q preset.  Choose it and click Ok. Ok.

21.  Slide the opacity of the layer to 85%

22.  Right-click on the layer and choose Blending Options.  Click on the WORDS Drop Shadow.  Apply these settings:  Blend Mode = Normal, color = black, opacity = 100%, angle = 30, distance = 2, spread = 0, size = 2

23.  In the Layer Palette, click on the top layer and then click on the eye of the top layer to UNHIDE the layer.  The top layer should be highlighted.

24.  Edit > Transform > Scale.  Click on the lock between the width and the height in the top tool bar.  Then changed the width = 75%.  The height will automatically adjust.  Click on the Check.

25.  With the mover tool, drag the tube into position where you want it (making some of the blur and grid part show.

26.  Right-click on one of the layers and choose Flatten Image.  We must either add a background or flatten the image any time you have some semi-transparent pixels like we do in this picture.  Flattening the image automatically adds a white background.

27.  Use the text tool to add your watermark and text.

28.  Save this as a JPEG.  File > Save As.

If you are doing this as part of the Photoshop Hatchlings class:

Now you need to post the file in the Resource forum   Be sure to put  Challenge 2 ~ YOUR NAME  in the subject line.
