This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to use masks.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X2, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download and install the L&K Mayra Plugin

Download the Masks you need.  Open these masks in PSP.

1.  Choose a photo that you want to use and open it in PSP.  SHIFT+D to make a duplicate.  Minimize the original.  we'll use it later.

2.  Image > Resize.  Set the width = 600 to 800 pixels.

3.  Layers > Promote Background Layer

4.  Effects > Plugins > L en K's > Mayra.  Control - = 0, Control 1 = 109, Control 2 = 49, Control 3 = 255

5.  Layers > New Mask Layer > From Image.  Source Window = WipeMaskRDB, Source luminance, UNCHECK invert mask data

6.  Right-click on the top mask layer and choose Merge > Merge Group

7.  Layers > New Raster Layer

8.  Flood-fill the top layer with a gold gradient

9.  Layers > New Mask Layer > From Image.   Source Window = HeartCurlsMaskRDB, Source Luminance

10.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Merge > Merge Group

11.  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.  apply these settings:  Vertical & Horizontal = 1, Opacity = 100, Blur = 2, Color = black

12.  Maximize the original photo.  Edit > Copy

13.  Click  back on your work in progress.  Edit > Paste as New Layer

14.  Layers > New Mask Layer > From Image.  Source window = HeartMayraMaskRDB, Source Luminance, CHECK Invert mask data

15.  Right-click on top layer and choose Merge > Merge Group

16.  Layers > New Raster Layer

17.  Flood-fill the top layer with a color that complements your photo

18.  Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom

19.  Effects > Texture > Texture.  Texture = Old Paper, Size = 25, Smoothness = 10, depth = 3, ambience = 0, shininess = 0, color = white, angle = 315, intensity = 50, elevation = 30

20.  Click on the Mayra layer just above it.  Change the opacity to 62%

21.  Click on the top layer (heart layer)

22.  Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout.  Vertical & Horizontal = 0, Opacity = 80, blur = 40, shadow color = black, fill interior with color UNCHECK

23.  Choose the airbrush tool Set to soft brush tip, shape = round, size = 32, hardness = 50, step = 10, density = 25, thickness = 100, rotation = 0, opacity = 50

24.  Layer > New Raster Layer

25.  With foreground = white, draw some highlights on the heart

26.  Adjustment > Blur > Gaussian Blur   Radius = 20

27.  Layers > Merge > merge All (Flatten)

28.  add your text and save as a JPEG.  File > Export > JPEG Optimizer
