Jack-O-Rama Tag

I wrote this tutorial on my own.  Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental.  I claim the copyright to my tutorial. You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to work with layers and basic effects.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro XI, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

1.  Open the Pumpkin tube in PSP.  Delete the Background and watermark layers by right-clicking on those layers and choosing Delete.

2.  Right-click on the pumpkin layer and choose Duplicate.

3.  Choose the selection tool.  Set it to ellipse.  Starting near the center, Draw an ellipse on top of the pumpkin.

4.  Press the Delete key.

5.  Selection > Modify > Expand.  Expand by 10 pixels.

6.  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.  Apply these settings:  Bevel, width = 8, smoothness = 10, depth = 8, ambience = 0, shininess= 30, angle = 315, intensity = 30, elevation = 50

7.  Click on the bottom layer to highlight it.  Flood-fill the selection with an orange color (one close to the inside color of a pumpkin)

7.  Effects > Textures > Blinds.  Apply these settings:  width = 25, Opacity=55, Color = dark red-orange or brown, Horizontal UNCHECKED

8.  Effects > Geometry > Spherize.  Strength = - 60, Circle chosen

9.  Layers > New Raster Layer

10.  Choose the pen tool.  Set to width = 2, benzier curve

11.  Left-click once near the top corner.  Then on bottom left-click AND drag down and to the right.  When you drag, you will get an arrow, and this will arc or curve the line (see pic).  Click the green check mark at top tool bar.

12.  Draw a second curve.  Left-click once at top, then left-click AND drag on bottom, to make curve.  Click on green check in top tool bar.

13.  Draw a third curve (in middle)

14.  Now draw some horizontal curves connecting these threads, building a spiderweb.

15.  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.  Apply these settings:  Vertical & Horizontal = 1, Opacity = 45, Blur = 1, Color = black

16.  Now open any tubes you wish to use to decorate your Jack-O-Rama.  Edit > Copy.  Click back on the pumpkin, and Edit > Paste as New Layer.  You may have to resize the tube:  Image > Resize.  Be sure Resize All Layers is UNCHECKED.

Add text.

17.  Now Layers > Merge > Merge Visible.

18.  Save this as a GIF.  File > Export > GIF OPtimizer.
