Lace Silhouette Tag

This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about using patterns and shapes.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS or CS2.  You may download a free trial at Adobe.

Remember to save as a .psd file often!

Download Supplies.  Place the Heart Shape into your Photoshop Presets>Shapes folder.  Place the Hexagon Pattern into your Photoshop Presets > Pattern folder.  See the tutorial:  Installing Fonts  to load the AOSVal font.

1.  Open a new, transparent image, size 400 x 400 .

2.  Right-click on the Shapes tool and choose Custom Shape Tool.  (Your shapes tool may be Rectangle Tool as default)

3.  Click on the down arrow for the Shape and a picture palette will come up.  Click on the shapes menu (right facing arrow) and  choose Load Shapes.  Load the Heart Shape.

4.  Choose the heart shape from the picture palette.

5.  Draw a heart shape in the color of your choice.

6.  With the magic wand, click on the inside of the heart.

7. Layer > New > Layer

8. Edit > Fill.  Use Pattern.  Click on the down arrow to open the pattern palette.  Click on the right-facing arrow, and choose Load patterns.  Load the Hexagon pattern

9.  Then in the pattern palette, choose the Hexagon pattern.

10.  With the magic wand, click on the pattern and fill with your color choice:  Edit > Fill > Color.  Selection > Deselect.

11.  Image > Canvas Size.  change the Canvas Size to width = 600, height = 600.

12.  Open up the lace tube.  Edit > Copy.

13.  Click back on the heart image and Edit > Paste.

14.  In the Layer Palette, drag the lace layer to the bottom.

15.  With the mover tool, move the lace into position.

16.  Right-click on the lace layer and choose Duplicate.  Move the lace into position along side the last lace layer.

17.  Repeat Step 16 until you have the lace all around the heart.

18.  In the Layer Palette, click on the eye of the Lace and Shape 1 (Heart) Layers to HIDE them.

19.  Right-click on one of the lace layers and choose Merge Visible.

20.  You can adjust the color of the lace.  Image > Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation.  Place a check next to COLORIZE.  Then adjust the sliders for Hue, Saturation, and Lightness until you find a color you like.  You can preview the color by looking at the bottom color bar.

21.  Choose the eyedropper tool.  Select the color of the lace net in the lace net (top) layer.

22.  Choose the Text tool.  Set your font to AOSval (it may show up as holiday in the list).  Set the size = 200 - 250.  Type  a capital A or C or another of your choice.  Place the text ding in the center of your heart.

23.  Layer > Merge Visible.

24.  Add your watermark (name) somewhere.

25.  Image > Trim.

26.  Resize as necessary:  Image > Size.

27.  Save this as a GIF.  File > Save As.  Change the file format to GIF.
