This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about making a lace screen and using brushes.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS - CS3.  You may download a free trial at Adobe.

Remember to save as a .psd file often!

Download Supplies.

1.  Open a new transparent image, size = 500 x 500

2.  With the Rectangle tool selection, draw a rectangle in the center.  Edit > Fill with the color of your choice.

3.  Selection > Modify > Contract by 10 pixels

4.  Press the delete key.

5.  Select > Deselect

6.  Right-click on the layer in the Layer Palette and choose Blending Options.  Click on the WORDS  Bevel and Emboss.  Apply these settings:  Inner Bevel, smooth, depth = 337, direction = up, size = 3, soften = 0, angle = 120, altitude = 30

7.  Select the inside of the frame with the magic wand.

8.  Selection > Modify > Expand Selection by 2 pixels

9.  Edit > Fill with White

10.  Layer > New > Layer

11.  Open the screen image in the supply folder. 

12.  In the Layer Palette, click on the thumbnail of the screen layer.

13.  Layer > New > Layer      Edit > Fill with the same color as before. 

14.  Select > Deselect.

15.  Image > Image Size.  Set Width = 175, height = 176 pixels

16.  Edit > Define Pattern.

17.  Click back on the frame pattern.  (There should be a selection on the white rectangle, and a new layer on top).

Edit > Fill with pattern of screen.

18.  Select > Deselect

19.  Right-click on the top layer and choose Merge Visible.

20.  Right-click on the merged layer and choose Duplicate Layer

21.  Move the duplicate to the left side of the first screen.

22.  Edit > Transform > Distort

23.   Drag the top left node up a row of squares, and drag the bottom left node down a row of squares.  Click on the Green Check

24.  Right-click on that layer and choose Duplicate Layer

25.  Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal

26.  Your image should look like this now.  Use the move tool to move the panels so there are no gaps between them.

27.  Open up the brush files in the supply folder.  Edit > Define Brush Preset

28.  Choose the Brush Tool.  Click back on your panels image.

29.  Window > Brushes.  Click on the WORDS  Brush Tip Shape, set Angle = 90 degrees.

30.  Set diameter = 265 px and choose the Heart Scroll bar brush.

31.  Layer > New > Layer

32.  Left-click once on the left side of the panel to place the brush.

33.  In the Layer Palette, right-click on the brush layer and choose Duplicate Layer.

34.  Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal  and move into position on the right side of the panel.

35.  Add the other brushes if you want and place them on your screen.

36.  Now add any tubes to decorate, etc. 

37.  Save this as a GIF file.  File > Save As
