This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to use textures and dingbats.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download the Supplies.  Open the AOSval font, by double-clicking on it. It will show up as holiday in your font list in PSP.  Open the lace tube in PSP.

1.  Open new, transparent image, size = 400 x 400.

2.  Flood-fill with the background color of your choice for your heart.

3.  Effects > Textures > Tiles.  Apply these settings:  Tile Shape = Hexagon, Angularity = 75, tile size = 15, border size = 3, smoothness = 0, depth = 1, ambience = 0, shininess = 0, color = white, angle = 315, intensity = 50, elevation = 30.

4.  With the magic wand set to tolerance = 0, select the black lace net.

5.    Floodfill with paintcan.  Choose a lighter color than your background (this will be the lace color).

 6.  Choose the shape tool set to Custom shapes.  Choose the heart shape.

7.  Set the foreground color to the color of your lace.  Set the background color = null.  Draw out a heart.

8.  Right-click on heart layer and choose Convert to Raster Layer.

9.  With the magic wand, click on the outside of the heart.  Then in the Layer Palette, click on the bottom (lace net) layer and press the DELETE key.  This should remove the background for the heart.

10.  In the Layer palette, click back on the top layer.  Layers > New Raster Layer.

11.  Choose the font tool.  Set the font to holiday, size = 250 - 300.  Set background = same as lace color, foreground = null.  Type a capital A or C, or your choice.  Place this image in the center of the heart.

12.  Right-click on the dingbat/font layer and choose Convert to Raster Layer.

13.  Open up the tube layer.  Image > Resize.  Resize to 150 pixels.

14.  Edit > Copy.  Click back on the heart image.  Edit > Paste as New Layer.  Drag the lace layer to the bottom.  with the mover tool, move the lace into position around the edge of the heart.

15.  Right-click on the lace layer and choose Duplicate.  With the mover tool, move the lace into position around the last lace layer.

16.  Repeat Step 15 until there is lace all around the heart.

17.  In the Layer Palette, click on the eyes of the top 4 layers to HIDE them.  Right-click on a lace layer and choose Merge >Merge Visible.

18.  Add your watermark (type your name).

19.  Save as a GIF.  File > Export > GIF Optimizer.

or you can add a new layer that you drag to the bottom and make a background for your tag.
