Magnifying Glass
I wrote this tutorial on my own. Any similarity to another tutorial is purely coincidental. I claim the copyright to my tutorial. You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial. Do not send the tutorial through email. Only share my link. This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP. It is intended for beginners to learn how to make a magnifying glass. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. I wrote this with Paint Shop Pro X, but the steps may also be done in any version. You may download a free trial at Corel. Remember to save as a psp file often! 1. Open new, transparent image, size = 200 x 200
2. In your Materials Palette, choose Pattern for the foreground and set it to woodtile. This pattern came with PSP X. Set the background color to NULL.
3. Choose the Shapes tool, set to ellipse. In the top menu bar, set it to Circle, Show Nodes, Create on Vector, Width = 10.
4. Draw a circle, leaving some room to add a handle below the circle.
5. Right-click on the cirlce and choose Convert to Raster Layer
6. Now set the shapes tool to Rectangle. EXCHANGE the foreground with the background. Background should be woodgrain, and foreground should be NULL.
7. Draw a rectangle for the handle. Make sure some of the rectangle overlaps the circle frame. There will be some nodes, drag one of the corner nodes (see black arrow) and it will round off the corners.
8. Right-click on the layer and choose Merge > Merge Visible
9. Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel. Apply these settings:
10. With the magic wand, select inside the circle frame.
11. Selection > Modify > Expand selection. Expand by 5.
12. Layers > new Raster Layer
13. Flood fill the selection with a silver, light gray or light blue gradient.
14. Slide the opacity of this layer to 61, and then drag the layer below the frame. Click back on the frame layer
15. With the magic wand select inside the circle frame again. Selection > Modify > Expand. Expand by 1
16. Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout. Apply these settings: Vertical & Horizontal = - 5, Opacity = 50, blur = 15, Shadow Color = Dark blue
17. Layers > new Raster Layer
18. Apply the same cutout again, EXCEPT change the V&H to +5
19. Layers > New Raster Layer
20. Choose the airbrush tool
21. Set the airbrush to shape = Round, size = 10, hardness = 50, step = 10, density = 100, thickness = 100, opacity = 100
22. set your foreground to white. With the airbrush tool, draw two shine marks on the glass of the magnifying glass
23. Adjustments > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Radius = 4.00
24. Layers > merge > Merge Visible.
25. Save this as a tube. File > Save As, psp format
