This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for intermediates to learn how to use preset shapes and to shade.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I used Paint Shop Pro 8, but the steps used may also be done in Version 7.04.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.

You will need Alien Skin's Xenofex 2 Plugin.  (sorry, only demo is free)

Download these supplies. (includes mask and tubes)

Remember to save as a psp file often!

1.  Open new, transparent image, size= 400 x 500.

2.  Flood-fill this image with your favorite light gradient or color.  This will be the paper.

3.  Right-click on the Layer in the Layer's Palette and choose New Raster Layer.

4.  In the top menu, click Files > Import > Custom Brushes.  Click on the open  button, browse to the folder where you downloaded the supplies.  Click on a-dozi's music .  Then click add.

5.  Choose the paintbrush tool from the tool menu.  In the tool options bar, click the drop-down menu for brush tips and find the a-dozi's music brush.  Set the size = 500.  Set your foreground color to black or a dark version of the color you chose for your paper.

6  Click one time in the center of the image.

7.  In the top menu, click Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.  Apply these settings:  Vertical & Horizontal = 1, Opacity = 60, Blur = 1, Color = black or a dark color .

8.  In top menu, click Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

9.  In the top menu, choose Effects > Plugins > Alien Skin > Xenofex 2 > Burnt Edges.  Apply these settings:  Contract = - 0.57, Burn Width = 31.18, Roughness = 84.  Burn Color = #404040, but y ou can go lighter than this, or even use a darker color of your paper color.

10.  In top menu, click Image > Canvas Size.  Set width & Height = 500.  Centered.

11.  Open up the tubes.  For each tube, go to top menu, and click Edit > Copy.  Then click on paper image and click Edit > Paste > As New Layer.  Move into position with the mover tool.

12.  I wanted to make my music notes gold.  So click on that layer in the Layer Palette. In the top menu, click Selections > Select All, Click Selections > Float, Click Selections > Defloat.  Click Selections > Modify > Expand Selection.  Expand Selection by 1.

13.  Flood fill the selection with a gold gradient.  I set the gradient at Angle = 50, Repeats = 4.

15.  Resize the tag.  In top menu, click Image > Resize.  Choose 50 % and be sure that Resize ALL Layers is CHECKED.

This is what mine looks like so far.

16.  With the text tool add your name.  I have provided the font that I used, too.

17.  Save this image by exporting it as a GIF
