This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about using patterns and making borders. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS - CS3. You may download a free trial at Adobe. Remember to save as a .psd file often! Download Supplies. Download and install Greg's Factory Output Vol. II > Pool Shadow Plugin. 1. Open the SparklingChampagneHoliday graphic in PSP. 2. Image > Duplicate. Close the original. 3. Image > Canvas Size. Add 6 pixels to the width & the height to make a 3-pixel border. Click on the CENTER anchor (white square) Set the Canvas extension color = black.
4. Image > Canvas Size. Add 70 to the width & height to make a 35-pixel border. Set Canvas extension color = white.
5. With the magic wand, select the white border.
6. Open the champagne pattern in the supply folder. Edit > Define Pattern. You may close out the pattern. 7. Click back on the sparkling champagne graphic. Edit > Fill with pattern-- champagne pattern.
8. Image > Canvas Size. Add 100 pixels to width & height to make a 50-pixel border. Set Canvas extension color = black.
9. Choose the rectangle marquee tool. 10. In the graphic, carefully select the bottom black border, like in picture shown below.
11. Open the NYCelebrationStreamers2 pattern. Edit > Define Pattern. You may close this pattern out.
12. Click back on the sparkling champagne graphic. Edit > Fill with NYCelebrationStreamers2 pattern.
13. Select > Deselect
14. Image > Rotate Canvas 90 degrees CW
15. With the rectangle Marquee tool, draw a rectangle selection along the bottom black border. 16. Edit > Fill with streamer2 pattern. 17. Image > Rotate Canvas 90 degrees CW 18. With the rectangle Marquee tool, draw a rectangle selection along the bottom black border. 19. Edit > Fill with streamer2 pattern. 20. Image > Rotate Canvas 90 degrees CW 21. With the rectangle Marquee tool, draw a rectangle selection along the bottom black border. 22. Edit > Fill with streamer2 pattern. 23. Image > Rotate Canvas 90 degrees CW 24. With the rectangle Marquee tool, draw a rectangle selection along the bottom black border. 25. Edit > Fill with streamer2 pattern. 26. Select > Deselect 27. Choose the Line tool. 28. Set the line tool as below: first icon, Weight = 25 px, color = white
29. Draw a line from top to bottom slightly slanted, like in the picture below.
30. In the Layer Palette, right-click on shape layer and choose Rasterize Layer
31. With the magic wand, click on the white bar to select it.
32. Choose the gradient tool and select a gold gradient (or use the Gold pattern to fill)
33. Filter > Greg's Factory Output, Vol II > Pool Shadow Apply these settings: 50, 50, 50, 50, 50, 51, 99, 73
34. Filter > Noise > Add Noise Amount = 15%, Gaussian, Monochromatic
35. Selections > Modify > Contract Selection by 8 pixels
36. Edit > Fill with BLACK
27. Select > Deselect
28. It should look like this
29. In the Layer Palette, right-click on the top layer and choose Duplicate layer
30. Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal With the mover tool move the ribbons into position so that the cross over the seam between the gold pattern and the black border.
31. Open the gold-black bow in the supply folder. Image > Image Size. Set Height = 200 pixels. Select > Select All and Edit > Copy
32. Click back on champagne image. Edit > Paste. With the mover tool, move the bow into place over the intersection of the two ribbons. 33. Right-click on top layer and choose Flatten Image
34. Image > Canvas Size. ADD 25 pixels to the HEIGHT only. Set Canvas extension color = black.
35. Image > Canvas Size. Add 6 pixels to width & height to make a 3-pixel border. Set the Canvas extension color = white.
36. With the magic wand, select the white border. Edit > Fill with gold pattern.
37. Select > Deselect 38. Add your watermark and text. Resize as necessary. 39. Save as a JPEG. File > Save As.
