Oval Blur Tag

I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial.  What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial.  Share only my link.

This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to create an oval tag.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X2, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download Alien Skin  Eye Candy 5 Impact  or Eye Candy 4000

1.  Open a new, transparent image, size = 500 x 500.

2.  Chose a dark foreground color from your tube.  Set the background color to NULL.

3.  Choose the Ellipse tool

4.  Set the Ellipse tool to Create on Vector, width = 500, solid line style

5.  Draw an ellipse (if your tube is longer horizontally, then draw the ellipse longer horizontally)

6.  Right-click on the ellipse layer and choose Convert to Raster Layer.

7.  Effects > Plugins > Alien Skin > Impact > Glass  Apply:  Basic Tab, 12.85, 13.19, 0, Inside selection, glass color = white, 43, 19, 50, 85, 0, 0, 0

Or use  Eye Candy 4000 > Glass

8.  With the magic wand, select inside the ellipse

9.  Selection > Modify > Expand Selection  by 3

10.  In the Layer Palette, click on the bottom layer.

11.  Flood-fill the selection in the bottom layer with white or a pale color of your choice.

I used white  in the image at the top of the page, but here's one with a different color.

12.  Layers > New Raster Layer

13.  Open up your tube.  Edit > Copy

14.  Edit > Paste Into Selection

15.  Adjust > Blur > Radial Blur  Apply:   Zoom, 50, 11, 13, 0

16.  Slide the opacity of this layer to 50

17.  Edit > Paste as New Layer -- the tube should paste again.

18.  Image > Mirror

19.  Selection > Invert.  Press Delete.  This will delete any part of the tube that might stick out of the oval.

20.  Selections > Invert

21.  Image > Duplicate  KEEP Selection

22.  Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur  Radius = 15

23.  Slide the Opacity of this layer to 34.

24.  Layers > Merge > Merge Visible.

25.  Save the image as a GIF.  File > Export > GIF Optimizer

Here are some examples using other shapes beside the oval.
