I claim the copyright to this tutorial.  You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about animation and making blinkies.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS.  You may download a free trial at Adobe.

Remember to save as a .psd file often!

1.  Open a new, transparent image, size 300 x 150.

2.  In top menu, click Layers > New > Layer.

3.  Choose the brush tool.  Click on the drop-down arrow next to the brush name in the tool options bar at the top.  Set the brush tip = 10 px, and hardness= 100%.

4.  Choose foreground color number 1 your choice.  Left-click once to make a circle in the corner.  Then make more dots around the edge of the image.  Notice in the pic below I spaced the dots out about 50 px apart.  Try to make your lines and columns straight.

5.  In top menu, click Layer > New > Layer.

6.  Change your foreground color to a 2nd color choice.  Now place these dots next to the first ones, but with a little space between.

7.  In top menu, click Layer > New > Layer.  Change your foreground color to 3rd color choice.  Now place these dots next to the second ones.  See pic below.  I filled the bottom layer so you could see the dots better.

8.  Now save this image withOUT merging the layers so that you have a blinky template.  (Now you can make blinkies all the same size and just change colors, etc.)  Save As .psd format

NOTE:  you can make templates with different sizes, too.
