Patterned Text
I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial. What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial. Share only my link. This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to use patterns on text. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. I wrote this with Paint Shop Pro X2, but the steps may also be done in any version. You may download a free trial at Corel. Remember to save as a psp file often!
In this tutorial you will learn two ways to put pattern into text. 1. Open up a photo that you would like to put text on. SHIFT+D to duplicate the image, and close the original. First method: 2. choose the selection marquee tool. Set it to Square
3. Draw a square selection around the part of the image that you want to use as a pattern
4. Edit > Copy Selections > None 5. Edit > Paste As New Image
6. Click on the Pattern tool for the foreground or background color
7. Click on the arrow to choose your pattern.
8. In the Material Properties you can adjust the angle or scale of the image. Remember that 100 takes the pattern at full size -- the same size it was in your photo.
9. Now Choose your font. I chose Times New Roman. You will want to use thick fonts to show the pattern off. I had my font set to Vector 10. Set the Materials Palette: Foreground = NULL, Background = pattern you made. Since in a previous step I had these backwards, I just clicked on the switch arrow.
11. Type your text. Apply any effects. I applied a drop shadow, and a corona using Eye Candy 4 12. With the mover tool, you can move the text into position.
Second Method: 13. Choose your font, again stick to thick fonts. Set the font to SELECTION
14. Left-click once over the area of the photo that you want to use the pattern from. Type your text.
15. Right-click on the PHOTO layer and choose Promote Selection To Layer. This creates a new layer that picked up the pattern of the photo in the text shape.
16. Selections > None
17. With the mover tool, move the text into position. Apply any effects -- again, I chose a drop shadow, and Eye Candy 4 Corona 18. Now save your image as a JPEG
