This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about transforming layers.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS.  You may download a free trial at Adobe.

You will need these flower tubes to help decorate.

You will need to install the Ulead Art Texture plugin.

Remember to save as a .psd file often!

1.  Open up a new transparent image, size  = 500 x 500 pixels

2.  Choose the Custom Shape Tool.  You may have to right-click on the Rectangle shape tool to choose the Custom Shape tool

3.  In the shape option bar at the top, choose the first icon and the heart shape.

4.  Draw out a white heart that takes up all of the image space.

5.  Right-click on the layer in the Layer Palette and choose Rasterize Layer.

6.  With the magic wand, select the heart.

7.  Right-click on the heart layer and choose Duplicate Layer.

8.  In the top menu, click Selections > Modify > Contract.  Contract by 10 or 15 pixels.

9.  Press the delete key on the keyboard.  You won't notice, but the middle of the heart will be deleted in the top layer.

10.  Now click on the bottom layer to highlight it.

11.  Set your foreground color to the color of your choice for your heart.  I chose pink.  Choose the paint can tool and flood-fill the heart with this color by left clicking.

12.  In top menu, click Filters > Textures > Texturizer.  Set the Texture to Sandstone, Scaling = 100%, Relief = 4.

13.  In the Layer Palette, click on the top layer.  With the magic wand select the white trim.

14.  In the top menu, click Filters > Ulead > Art Texture.  Click on the Edit button in the bottom left.  Choose the pattern #5 by clicking on it.  Click ok.  Then click on one of the patterns on the right when it returns to the first screen.  This will make the trim gold.

15.  In the layer Palette, Right-click on the gold trim layer and choose Blending Options.

16.  Click on the words Drop Shadow.  Set the Blend Mode = Multiply, color = black, opacity = 75%, Angle = 168, Distance = 1, Size = 1

17.  Right-click on the Gold Trim Layer and choose Duplicate Layer.

18.  In the top menu, click Edit > Transform > distort.  A distortion box will appear around the top trim.  With the mouse, push in (drag in) the left center node and right center node just a bit.  You may also need to push down on the top center node, and push up on the bottom center node, to line up the top and bottom edges.  When satisfied, click on the Check in the transform option bar at the top.

19.  Now open up the flower tubes that you wish to use to decorate your heart with.  In top menu, click Edit >copy

20.  Click back on the heart image, and in top menu click Edit > Paste.

21.  We need to turn the flowers to fit a bit.  In the top menu, click edit > Transform > Rotate.

22.  Drag one of the top corners up or down.  When satisfied with the rotation, click on the check in the rotation option bar at the top.  Use the mover tool to move the flowers into position.

23.  I decided I needed some flowers on the other side.  So in the Layer Palette, I right-clicked on the flower layer and chose Duplicate layer.  Then I went to the top menu, and clicked on Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal, and then again and flip Vertical.  With the mover tool, I moved the flowers into position.

24.  You may want to resize your image.  Image > Resize.  I chose to resize mine to 300 pixels.

25.  Now save.  File > Save As and choose Compuserve GIF format
