I claim the copyright to this tutorial.  You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for intermediates to learn how to use preset shapes and to shade.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I used Paint Shop Pro 8, but the steps used may also be done in Version 7.04.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.  This tutorial only uses Paint Shop Pro and Animation Shop.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Before we begin, you might want to study the PSP tool bars.  I have labeled the tools on another page.  Click on the link and it will open a new page.  You may want to keep this page open while you work on the tutorial, to refer to the names now and then.  PSP Tools

Now that you have studied the tools, let's begin!

1.  Open the tube or picture that you want to use.  Press Shift +D to duplicate.  Close the original.

2.  In the top menu, click Image > Resize.  Resize the image so that the biggest dimension is no more than 300 pixels.

3.  In top menu, click on Image > Canvas.  Set width & height =500 and center image

4.  Add in text or special effects you want to your image.  Merge Layers visible (Layers > Merge > Merge Visible) if necessary after adding your text or special effects.

5.  In the Layer Palette, right-click on the layer and choose Duplicate.  Duplicate the layer 2 more times.  You want 4 copies of the same layer.

6.  In the Layer Palette, click on the eye of the top 2 layers to hide them and then click on the second layer from bottom (the first copy) to select it.

7.  In top layer go to Effects > Distortion Effects > Pixelate. Apply these settings:  block width & height = 4, check symmetric.

8.  In the layer palette, click on the 2nd copy layer (third layer from bottom).

9.  In top layer go to Effects > Distortion Effects > Pixelate.  Apply these settings:  block width & height = 10.

10.  In the layer palette, click on the 3rd copy layer (top layer).

11.  In top layer go to Effects > Distortion Effects > Pixelate.  Apply these settings:  block width & height = 50.

12.  Choose the Selection tool set to rectangle.  Draw a selection rectangle close to around your image like I did below.  In top layer choose Image > Crop to Selection.

13.  Now make sure all layers are unhidden, and save the image as a .psp

14.  Open up Animation Shop (File > Jasc Software > Launch Animation Shop)

15.  In Animation Shop, click File > Open, and open the psp file you just saved.

16.  In top menu of AS, click Edit > Select All

17.  Then right-click on one of the frames.  Choose frame properties.

18.  Change Display time to 50

19.  In top menu, click File > Save As and save as  a gif.
