I own the intellectual copyright for the written tutorial. What you make is yours, but please do not take my tutorial. Share only my link. This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to create a background. If you have any questions, please feel free to Email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. I wrote this with Paint Shop Pro XI, but the steps may also be done in any version. You may download a free trial at Corel. Remember to save as a psp file often! Download DSB Flux plugin and install. 1. Choose a photo that you want to use. SHIFT+Duplicate. Close the original. 2. Take the rectangle selection tool and select the part of the image that you want to use. Image > Crop to Selection
3. Image > Resize. Resize to 400 PIXELS wide 4. Effects > Plugins > DSB Flux > Tiler. Apply these settings: Width =90, Height = 10, X Offset = 80, Y Offset = 85.
These settings are meant as starting points. You may need to adjust the settings based on your graphic. 5. Image > Canvas Size. Set the Width = 800. Be sure to make the HEIGHT the same as the ORIGINAL dimension. (you don't want to change the height). Placement should be CENTER Right, so that Right = 400.
6. Right-click on the layer and choose Duplicate.
7. Image > Mirror
8. Right-click on top layer and choose Merge > Merge Visible.
9. Save this as a JPEG. File > Export > JPEG Optimizer See below for HTML instructions on how to use in Outlook Express or on a Web page. Here is a variation.
HTML Instructions: You will need this TXT file. Open it ONLY in NOTEPAD. 1. Move the background graphic into a folder to hold all your stationary files. It is important that you place your html file and your background image in the SAME folder! 2. Right-click on the Text file from the zip you downloaded. Choose Open WITH and choose NOTEPAD. Do not use any other program to open this. 3. This is what it looks like when you open it (minus the pink highlights):
4. The Pink highlights represent places that you will have to change with your personal information. BE SURE that you leave all quotes where they are! Page Title: this is what would be seen in the blue title bar at the top of a webpage background: this is your background image. Be sure to type the name exactly as you saved it. font name: type the name of the font that you want used in your stationary. Remember that if the receiver of your email does not have this font, they will see the stat in their default font. Your name Here: this is the only place you can take the quotes off. Celebrity (is font name in your file): again, choose your font Your name: type the creator's name of the stationary Your url: type your website name if you have one. In my example that follows, I added in the html code for making it an active link. Date: type Month and year that you created the stationary. 5. Here is my corrected example:
You can change any of the color numbers. Make sure you type in the HTML number for the color you want to use. I didn't change the colors, because it matched ok with my background. 6. Click on this link if you want to see my example as a webpage: Scallop Background.
