Sierpinski Frame 2

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to use masks and plugins.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro 9, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download these plugins:

Funhouse > Sierpinski Plugin

Eliminate Black

Download the Sierpinski Laser Mask by left-clicking on the link and then right-clicking on the image and choose Save Picture As

1.  Open a new, transparent image that is 400 x 400

2.  Set your foreground to gradient.  Choose the gradient of your choice, Angle = 30, Repeats = 0.

3.  Flood-fill this image with the gradient.

4.  In the top menu, click Layers > New Raster Layer

5.  Set the gradient in the foreground color to Angle = 150, Repeats = 0

6. Food-fill the new layer with this new gradient setting.

7.  Open up the Sierpinski Laser Mask and minimize the mask.

8.  Click back on the gradient image.  In the top menu, click Layers > New Mask Layer > From Image.

In the Source Window, choose the SierpinskiLaserMaskRDB from the drop-down menu, CHECK Source Luminance.  Click ok.

9.  Right-click on the top group layer and choose Merge > Merge Group

10.  In the top menu, click Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.  Apply these settings:  V & H = 1, Opacity = 100, Blur = 1, Color = black

11.  In the top menu, click Effects > Edge Effects > Enhance

12.   Open up the tube that you wish to use.  Edit > Copy.

13.  Click back on the gradient image, and click Edit > Paste > Paste as New Layer.   (Resize the tube so that it fits on the image if necessary  Image > Resize.  Be sure Resize All Layers is UNCHECKED)

14.  Right-click on the tube layer (top) and choose Duplicate

15.  In the Layer Palette, click on the eye of the top layer to HIDE that layer, and then click on the layer below that (original tube layer) to highlight it.

16.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Funhouse > Sierpinski Mirror.   Apply these settings:  Scaling factor = 36, Fractal Power = 56.  You may want to adjust these settings.

17.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Transparency > Eliminate Black.  No dialogue box comes up; it automatically applies.

18.  In the top menu, click Effects > Edge Effects > Enhance

19.  In the Layer Palette, click on the top layer, and the eye of the top layer to UNHIDE it.

20.  In the top menu, click Image > Resize.  Resize to 80%.  Be Sure that Resize All Layers is UNCHECKED

21.  In top menu, click Image > Mirror

22.  In the top menu, click Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)

23.  In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check symmetric.  Set the Color to a dark color from the picture.  Margins = 3.

24.  In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check Symmetric.  Set the Color to white.  Margins = 30

25.  In the Materials Palette, set the foreground to Pattern.  Choose the image itself as pattern, Angle = 130, Scale = 75

26.  With the magic wand (tolerance = 0), click on the white border.

27.  Flood-fill this white border with the pattern in your foreground.

28.  In the top menu, click Selections > Promote Selection to Layer.

29.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Funhouse > Sierpinski Mirror.  Apply these settings:  Scaling Factor = 57, Fractal Power = 39.

30.  In the top menu, click Effects > Plugins > Transparency > Eliminate Black

31.  In the top menu, click Effects > Edge Effects > Enhance

32.  Click back on the layer below the promoted selection layer.  Flood-fill the selection with your GRADIENT

33.  In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  A dialogue box will ask you to merge layers.  Click Yes.  Apply these border settings:   Check symmetric.  Set the Color to same dark color as in Step 23.  Margins = 3.

34.   In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check symmetric.  Set the Color to white.  Margins = 3.

Select the white border with the magic wand and flood-fill this with the gradient.

35.   In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check symmetric.  Set the Color to same dark color as in Step 23.  Margins = 3.

36.   In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check symmetric.  Set the Color to white.  Margins = 5.  Select the white border with the magic wand and flood-fill this with the gradient.

37. In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check symmetric.  Set the Color to same dark color as in Step 23.  Margins = 3.

38.  In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check symmetric.  Set the Color to white.  Margins = 5.  Select the white border with the magic wand and flood-fill this with the gradient.

39.  In the top menu, click Image > Add Borders.  Check symmetric.  Set the Color to same dark color as in Step 23.  Margins = 2.

40.  In the top menu, click Image > Resize.  Resize to 400 pixels wide. 

41.  Add your watermark and name and save as JPG.  File > Save As
