This tutorial is intended for a beginner to learn about filling selections. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Photoshop CS. You may download a free trial at Adobe. Remember to save as a .psd file often! 1. Open new, transparent image, size 400 w. by 500 h. pixels.
2. Right-click on the Shapes tool and choose Custom Shape Tool
3. In the top tool menu bar, choose the first icon (circled), Custom Shape, and click on the drop-down menu next to Shape.
Find the stocking shape that you made.
4. Set the foreground to the color of the stocking that you want. With the left mouse button, draw out a stocking
5. Right-click on the layer in the Layer Palette, and choose Rasterize Layer.
6. Open up the image or tube that you want to use to decorate your stocking with.
7. In the Layer Palette, drag the image layer onto the Stocking image. Now the image should be a second layer in your Layer Palette. 8. In the Layer Palette, click on the shape layer (bottom), and select area outside of the stocking with the magic wand.
9. You should have an outline of the stocking with a selection. Press the delete key.
10. Now you have the stocking looking somewhat like this. Doesn't matter about the red strip at the top. The fluff will take care of it later.
11. In top menu, click Layer > Merge Visible.
12. In top menu, click Selection > Inverse
13. Right-click on Layer in Layer Palette and choose Duplicate Layer. 14. In top menu (while image is still selected), Click on Filters > Texture > Patchwork.
15. Slide the opacity of the top layer down to 50%. Look in the Layer Palette, and choose Properties
16. In top menu, click Layer > Merge Visible
17. Right-click on Layer in Layer Palette, and choose Blending Options. Click on the words Inner Shadow. Set Blend mode = normal, Angle = -15, Opacity = 61, Distance = 6, Size = 25
18. In the tool menu, right- click on Pen tool and choose Freeform Pen Tool.
19. Draw the fluff around the top of the stocking.
20. In Layer Palette, Right-click on fluff Shape layer and choose Rasterize Layer.
21. Right-click on Fluff layer and choose Duplicate Layer.
22. In top menu, click on Filter > Patchwork and use same settings as before.
23. Click on the eye next to the bottom layer to HIDE that layer.
24. In top menu, click Layer > Merge Visible. 25. Click on the words: Inner Shadow, and choose these settings: Blend Mode = Normal, Opacity = 50%, Angle = -67, Distance = 5, Size = 25
26. In top menu, click Layer > Merge Visible. 27. Now Save the file as a GIF.
