Crying Tag

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to create a new gradient file.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Download the Crying Times Font and Eye Candy 4000 Water Drops.

1.   Open up a tube picture of a face.  SHIFT + D to duplicate.  Close the original.

2.  Resize the face image as necessary.  Image > Resize.  Make the height no bigger than 350 pixels.

3.  Set your text to the Crying Times Font, size = 72, Bold, stroke width = 2, create as a vector. Type your text.

4.  Layers > merge > Merge Visible.

5.  Layers > New Raster Layer.

6.  Set the foreground color = #e7e2e4 or some water color.

7.  With the lasso tool set to freehand, draw a small selection along the inner corner of the eye.  Flood-fill this selection with the water color from #6.

8.  Effects > Plugins > Eye Candy 4000 > Water Drops.   Apply these settings:  Drop Size = 7, Coverage = 50, Edge Darkening = 50, Opacity = 100, Tinting = 85, Refraction = 100, Liquid Color = #d0d9f4

9.  Layer > new Raster Layer.

10.  Draw another selection.  This time a little curvy (see pic below), like as if the water is gathering at the corner of the eye.  Repeat steps 7 & 8.

11.  Layers > New Raster Layer

12.  Choose the tube tool.  Set it to Water Drops, scale = 25.

13.  Add the tube at the corner of the eye.

14.  Layers > New RAster layer.  Add a teardrop a little below the eye

15.  Layers > New Raster Layer.  Add a Tear Drop lower in the picture, on top of the text.

16.   Layers >  New Raster Layer.  Add a tear drop lower, below the text.

17.  Layers > New Raster Layer.  Add a teardrop lower on the lips.

18.  In the Layer Palette, Close out all the layers EXCEPT the bottom face layer, and the first eyelid water layer.

19.  Edit > Copy Merged.

20.  Open Animation Shop.  Edit > Paste > As new Animation

21.  In Paint Shop Pro.  Hide the the first eye water layer.  UNHIDE the bottom face layer and the second Water layer.

22.  Edit > Copy Merged.

23.  In Animation Shop, Edit > Paste > After Current Frame

24.  In Paint Shop Pro,  HIDE that layer, UNHIDE the bottom face layer and the next tear layer.

25.  Repeat Steps 22 & 23.

26.  In PSP, HIDE the layers.  UNHIDE the bottom face layer and the next tear layer.

27.  Repeat Steps 22 & 23.

28.  REPEAT Steps 26 - 27 until you have pasted all tear layers into Animation Shop.

29.  In Animation Shop, Edit > Select > All Frames.

30.  Click on one of the frames and choose Frame Properties.  Set the display time to 20.

31.  Click on the last frame.  Right-click and choose frame properties.  Set display time to 100.

32.  Save this as a GIF.
