This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to use animation.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro X, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

1.  Open a new, transparent image, size = 400 x 300 pixels

2.  Flood-fill the image with black.

3.  Selections > select All

4.  Selections > Modify > Contract.  Contract by 8.  Flood-fill this selection with a dark background.

5.  With the Rectangle Selection tool, draw a rectangle box through the middle of the graphic horizontally.  Estimate the box to be about 8 pixels wide.  Flood-fill it with black.

6.  Layer > New Raster Layer

7.  Choose the lasso tool, set it to point to point.

8.  Left-click in the exact middle of the bar once.  Then click once in the top right corner, and then once in the bottom right corner, and then right-click.  The selection will be a triangle.

9.  Selections > Modify > Contract by 8.

10.  Flood-fill the triangle selection with the color of your choice.

11.  With the selection tool, tolerance = 0, click in the top section to select it.

12.  Layers > New Raster Layer.

13.  Open the face tube that you want to use.  Edit > Copy.  Click back on triangle image.  Edit > Paste As New Layer.  Click on the face tube (somewhere outside the selection) and drag it around until you have the part of the tube inside the selection that you want.

14.  Selections > Invert

15.  Press the Delete key.

16.  Slide the opacity of this layer to 25.

17.  In the Layer Palette, click on the bottom layer.  Then with the selection tool, click on the red triangle.

18.  Click back on face image.  Image > Resize.  Resize to 125% (enlarges it)

19.  Draw a selection around the part of the tube that you want.  Edit > Copy.  Then click back on the triangle layer and Edit > Paste as New Layer.  Move the tube around until it covers inside the triangle and shows one eye.  Remember to click on the face tube outside the selection box.

20.  Selections > Invert

21.  Press the Delete key

22.  Choose the paintbrush tool set to size = 5, and square shape

23.  Set the Line style to Small Dash

24.  Choose the pen tool.  Do NOT choose Create on Vector.  Choose Mode= segment

Line style = small dash, width = 10

25.  Be sure that your foreground color is set to the red color, background to null.  Draw a segment by clicking once on the left end of the center black bar and the right of the center black bar.

26.  Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.  Bevel = pie, Width = 14, smoothness = 17, depth = 7, ambience = -30, shininess = 10, angle = 19, intensity = 54, elevation = 40

27.  Image > Resize.  50%  Be sure to UNCHECK Resize all Layers.

28.  Change the foreground color to black.

29.  Layers > New Raster Layer.

30.  Draw a "dashed" segment in the bottom red space, see image below.
