Weave Frame Tutorial
I claim the copyright to this tutorial.  You are free to do whatever you please with the tag you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for intermediate to learn how to work with some plugins and selections.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

You will also need the Eye Candy Glass Filter (version 3.1 ) and the VMNatrual Sparkle plugin

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I used Paint Shop Pro 8.01.  However, you may make this frame in PSP 7.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Before we begin, you might want to study the PSP tool bars.  I have labeled the tools on another page.  Click on the link and it will open a new page.  You may want to keep this page open while you work on the tutorial, to refer to the names now and then.  PSP Tools

Now that you have studied the tools, let's begin!

1.  Click New File in the top menu bar.  Enter these settings:  width=300, Height=300, Resolution=72.000 pixels/inch, Background Color= transparent, image type=16.7 Million Colors (24 Bits).  Click Ok.

2.  Flood-Fill with the color of your choice.

3.  In top menu, click Effects > PluginEffects >Eye Candy 3.1 >Weave.  Apply these settings:  ribbon width = 30, gap width = 10, fill gaps, gap color = white, shadow depth = 50, thread detail = 50, thread length = 8.  Click Check.

4.  In top menu, click Effects > Geometry Effects > Spherize.  Set Strength to 100.
NOTE:  if you are using PSP 7 you probably do not have the Spherize plugin.  That's ok.  Just skip this step!  and go on to Step 5.

5.  In top menu, click Effects > Reflection >Kaleidoscope.  Apply these settings:  Horizontal offeset = 0, vertical offset = 0, rotation angle = 0, scale factor = 0, number of petals = 10, number of orbits = 0, radial suction = 0, Edge mode = reflect.  Click OK.

6.  Ok this is probably the "toughest" part.  *S*  From the left tool bar select the selection tool and change it to circle.  If you look at the center of your image, you will see some very fine lines, like spokes.  We will start our circle at the center of these spokes.  Click on the center of the spokes and drag out a circle selection, as large as you can, so that the selection ends on the edge of a circle weave layer in your picture.  See my picture below.  You may have to undo and try again.  It's important that you get this centered correctly.

7.  In top menu click Selections > Invert.  On keyboard, press DELETE key to remove the part of your picture outside of the circle you selected.  Then intop menu click Selections > Invert AGAIN, so that your circle is selected again.

8.  In Layer Palette, right-click on layer and click Duplicate.

9.  In top menu, click Selections > Modify > Contract

Set number of pixels to 20.  click the eyes to view this on your image.  You want the selection to contract to the inner edge of the first weave layer.  You may have to adjust the number to fit your picture.

10.  Make sure that the top layer is selected, and click the DELETE key on keyboard.

11.  In top menu, click Selections > Select All.  Then click Selections > Float

12.  Flood-fil the outer ring you have selected with WHITE.

13.  Now apply a gold preset to this ring.  You may use Super Blade Pro Gold, Ulead Art Texture Gold, or some gold pattern fill.  I used Super Blade Pro Gold Glass preset.
Select >None

14.  In top menu,  click Layers > Merge > Merge Visible

15.  In top Menu, click Selections > Modify > Contract.  Number of pixels = 85.  This time the selection should fall a little into a weave section.

16.  Press the DELETE key on the keyboard.

17.  In top menu, Selections > Modify > Expand.  Number of pixels = 12

18.  In top menu, Selections > Promote Selection to Layer

19.  In top menu, click Selections > Select All.  Then click Selections > Float.  Flood-Fill this inner ring with WHITE.  Then apply the same gold you used before.  In top menu, click Layers > Merge >  Merge Visible.

20.  Get the magic wand tool from left menu, HOLD the Shift key down, and select all the shite areas in the weave.  Press DELETE key on keyboard.

21.  Save this as your weave frame.  Then you can reuse this frame anytime you want to.

Now continue to the next page to learn how to insert a picture into the frame and to make it into a globe.
