This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP. It is intended for intermediates to learn how to use preset shapes and to shade. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro. I used Paint Shop Pro 8, but the steps used may also be done in Version 7.04. You may download a free trial at Jasc. Download the mask. Unzip and save it to your mask folder in PSP. Remember to save as a psp file often! Before we begin, you might want to study the PSP tool bars. I have labeled the tools on another page. Click on the link and it will open a new page. You may want to keep this page open while you work on the tutorial, to refer to the names now and then. PSP Tools Now that you have studied the tools, let's begin! 1. Open a new, transparent image, size = 375 x 500.
2. In top menu, click Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load mask from Disk
3. Choose the wine glass mask you want to use. I gave you a couple of choices. This one I used is the goblet. Be sure source luminance & Fit to layer are marked.
4. Your layer palette will now look like below. Click on the Raster layer on the bottom to activate it.
5. Flood-fill the raster layer with the color you have chosen for your wine glass. 6. In the Layer Palette, right-click on the Group layer, and choose Merge > merge group.
7. Right-click on the layer Palette, and choose New raster Layer.
8. In the Layer Palette, drag the new layer to the bottom.
9. Flood-fill this layer with White. 10. In the Layer Palette click on the top layer to activate.
11. With the magic wand, select the area outside of the goblet.
12. In the top menu, click Selections > Modify > expand Selection. Expand by 2.
13. In layer Palette, click on bottom layer, and press delete key on keyboard. This removes the excess white. 14. Now choose the rectangle selection tool from the tool menu. 15. Carefully draw a box around the bottom part of the goblet cup. You want the bottom edge of the rectangle to pass through the top of the stem.
16. In top menu, click Selections > Promote selection to Layer
17. Then with the mouse click inside the rectangular box on top of the goblet. Now the selection surrounds the goblet cup.
18. Flood-fill this selection with your wine color. I chose a light pink,
19. Choose the selection tool and set it to ellipse. Start the ellipse a little above the wine level (see red line) and in the center horizontally.
Then drag out the ellipse, so that it intersects the glass where the wine touches the glass.
20. In top menu, click Adjust > Brightness/Contrast > Brightness/Contrast. Set Brightness = - 20 (negative) and Contrast = 0.
21. Right- click on the promoted layer, and choose New Raster Layer.
22. Choose the tube tool from the tool menu, and choose the bubbles tube that comes with PSP 8. I set the size = 65.
23. In top menu, click Adjust > Hue and Saturation > Colorize. Set Hue = 200, Saturation = 200. If you chose a different color for your wine, you will need to play with these numbers to get the right color to make your bubbles match your wine.
24. In the Layer Palette slide the opacity level of the promoted selection to 60, the bubbles selection to 60, and the goblet layer (top) to 72. 25. In the top menu, click Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. 26. In the top menu, click Image > Resize. Resize to 75%. Make sure that Resize All Layers is UNchecked.
27. Open up your flowers tube. In top menu, click Edit > Copy. 28. Now click on your Goblet image. In top menu, click Edit > Paste > As New Layer. 29. Choose the mover tool, and move the goblet and roses into position. (I also added a heart tube to decorate my goblet). 30. Activate the flowers layer by clicking on it in the Layer Palette. Then choose the eraser tool, and erase some of the flowers to make it look like they go behind the goblet. I erased the part inside the red circle.
31. Now click Layers > Merge > Merge Visible. Save this as .psp tube for later use. You can add your name to it,. like I did and save it as a Gif.
