Build a Witch

Challenge

I claim the copyright to this tutorial.  You are free to do whatever you please with what you make, but please do not take my tutorial.  Do not send the tutorial through email.  Only share my link.

This tutorial was created for some friends of mine to challenge their use of PSP.  This is a challenge so the tutorial is NOT intended for beginners.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I used Paint Shop Pro 8, but the steps used may also be done in Version 7.04.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

1.  First download the zipped file of the body parts.  Unzip the body parts into a folder of your choice.

2.  Open up a new image:  800 x 1000.  The body part pieces are large.  You can always resize later.

3.  Open up each of the body parts in turn.  For each body part:  In the top menu, click on Edit > Copy.  Then click on the blank 800 image.  Then in the top menu, click Edit > Paste > As New Layer.  You want all the pieces to be added to the 800x 800 image so that each piece is on its new layer.

4.  Now color and decorate as your choice!

Hint to Color and Shade:

For any piece:

1.  Click on the piece with the magic wand set to 0 tolerance.

2.  Flood fill the piece with your color choice.  Or use paintbrush or airbrush to color in.

3.  In top menu, click Selections > Float.

4.  While in float, in top menu, click Effects > 3D Effects > Cutout, and apply a cutout.  Play around with the settings.  The color should be a darker version of the color you used to fill.

5.  In top menu, click Selections > Defloat.

6.  In top menu, click Layer > Add New Raster Layer

7.  On the new Layer, use the airbrush to apply white (for highlight) and a darker shade of your color choice or black (for shadow), and add some highlights and shadows to give the piece some depth.

8..  Now in the Layer Palette, HIDE all the other layers but the piece you are working on and the highlight/shadow layer.  In top menu, click Layer  > Merge > Merge Visible.  Then rename this layer.

9.  Now continue on to your other piece layers and shade them in, too.

Have fun!
