This tutorial is intended for beginners to learn how to use alpha selections.  If you have any questions, please feel free to Email  me.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I wrote this with  Paint Shop Pro XI, but the steps may also be done in any version.  You may download a free trial at Corel.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

This tutorial is written at the request of my friend Moomaw/Cathy.  These are her settings for the sponge frog.

Download Eye Candy 5: Nature plugin.

Download the ZanyFrogTemplate  When you open this template, it will look blank, but it has alpha selections saved in it.

1.  Open the Zany Frog Template in PSP.  When you open this template, it will look blank, but it has alpha selections saved in it.

2.  Hold the SHIFT + D to duplicate.  Close the original.

3.  Selections > Load Selection From Alpha channel

4.  Choose the ZanyFrog selection.  Load

5.  Flood-fill the selection with your choice of color for your frog.

6.  Effects > Plugins > Alien Skin Eye Candy 5: Nature > Ripples

7.  Apply the Zany Sponge preset, if you have it.

If you don't have that preset, then choose these settings:

Click on the Basic Tab.  Ripple Generator = Raindrops, Number of Raindrops = 1, Ripple Wavelength = 43.99, Time = 91.06, Random Wave Amplitude = 13, Random Wave Wavelength = 0.10, Refraction = 83, CHECK Draw Outside Selection, Random Seed = 6376

Then click on Lighting Tab.  Direction = 60, Inclination = 60, Highlight Brightness = 50, Highlight Size = 30, Highlight Color = WHITE, Select from File = Beach.png, Reflection Strength = 50.

It will apply the texture over ALL of the image, even the transparency part.

8.  Selection > Load Selection from Alpha Channel.  Choose ZanyFrog selection

9.  Selections > Invert

10.  Press the delete key.  This will delete the texture from the transparency area.

11.  Selections > Select None

12.  Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.  Apply these settings:  Vertical & Horizontal = 2, Opacity = 75, Blur = 5, Color = black

13.  Layers > New Raster Layer.

14.  Drag the new blank layer to the bottom.  (Layers > Arrange > Send to Bottom)

15.  Flood-fill this layer with a teal blue or other color choice for water.

16.  Effects > Plugins > Alien Skin Eye Candy 5: Nature > Ripples

Apply these settings:

Basic Tab:  Ripple Generator = Raindrops, Number of Raindrops = 9, Ripple Wavelength = 58.16, Time = 100, Random Wave Amplitude = 100, Random Wave wavelength = 0.40, Refraction = 82, CHECK draw Outside Selection, Random Seed = 4876

Lighting Tab:  Direction = 182, Inclination = 61, Highlight Brightness = 43, Highlight Size = 12, Highlight Color = WHITE, Select from File = Sunset.png, Reflection Strength = 58

17.  Image > Add Borders.  Symmetric, Size = 4, Color = same color as frog

18.  Add your text/watermark.

19.  Save this as a JPEG.  File > Export > JPEG OPtimizer
